What Our Guests Had To Say About their Stay
Alan & Judith Dec 2025
This was an amazing place to stay and it was a fantastic way to break the journey from the South East to Central Scotland. It was really helpful that the description warned us it might be a bit cold in midwinter as we were able to pack accordingly. However with the heaters on it was much warmer than we had expected.

What a beautiful and peaceful apartment! We loved the hidden quirky bookcase door and how cosy everything was – from the super warm duvet to the extra blankets in the living room. Our host gave excellent instructions and the information book in the apartment was really helpful. We even saw a red squirrel in the garden while we were eating our breakfast! Loved every moment of our stay.

We booked a stay at the Rochester suite as a group of friends, during the bank holiday weekend, and we were definitely not disappointed! Host was very friendly, and the place was a nice change from our previous mundane hotel rooms. Would definitely go again!

We had a lovely stay at Stephanie’s place, fantastic to stay in a grand hall in beautiful grounds. We even saw red squirrels! Very comfortable apartment with a very well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need. The main room was very comfortable and a good size for the 4 of us. Good local information and instructions. It was a bit chilly when we arrived on Boxing Day but the heaters provided soon warmed it up.

Stunning rooms in a historical manor house on beautiful grounds in the Lake District. So peaceful and decadent, rich with history. Easy drive to all the major Lakes District attractions. Lovely well maintained grounds with woodlands and gardens to explore and sit and relax in. Rich history and absolutely just and incredible place to stay. Stephanie was very helpful and welcoming leading up to, during and even as we were leaving.

From the helpful messages before arrival to the thoughtful touches once we arrived, Orton Hall was a wonderful place to stay and we’d love to return. The apartment is well laid out with everything you’d expect and more—fully equipped kitchen, books, games, and extra blankets. The main living/dining/kitchen space is warm and inviting with plenty of seating, while the bedrooms are spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with ample storage. The bathroom was spotless, and the whirlpool tub easily fit our two children. It was also great that you couldn’t hear the TV from the bedrooms once they were in bed. We enjoyed the communal lounge with its piano, pool table, and chess set—our son loved practicing his piano skills there. The grounds were beautiful, with rabbits, hares, and even a red squirrel spotted during our stay. We were pleasantly surprised by how convenient the location was for exploring the Lakes, and we’ve already recommended Orton Hall to friends and family.

Driving up to Orton Hall can only be described as Wow what a place, on entering the Royalist suite just blew us away. Everything was as described and much more, we felt relaxed straight away with wonderful views of the wildlife right outside our window. We found Orton Hall an ideal location to access lots of Towns, attractions and the Lakes by car. We have had one of the most relaxing holidays and can’t wait to go back. Definitely 5 stars. Thank you Stephanie for a wonderful stay
Gemma Apr 2025
We loved our stay at Orton Hall, beautiful building, amazing scenery and lovely touches, making it a real (and grand!) home. Great communication, easy check in and a perfect base for exploring the local area. Would highly recommend! Thank you 🙂
Natalie Apr 2024
What a fantastic apartment in a lovely building! The classic features of the apartment were really cool and the communal lounge in the building was very nice. We enjoyed a few games of pool there. Orton is a lovely village (particularly liked the chocolate shop and pub) and a great location to explore the surrounding Dales and the Lakes within easy reach.

Stephanie’s place is a hidden gem for those who want to have some peaceful, quiet and serene time away from the busy lives of the cities. We loved the place which is a blend of old architecture with some modern facilities. We appreciate the hosts for keeping the old touch in tact. There’s a small village nearby with very few shops and restaurants including a chocolate factory and George Hotel. There are some walking tracks which are accessible through maps. Stephanie and team have kept the house squeaky clean. We stayed in Rochester Suite. The people around this area are very nice and welcoming. This place is surrounded by beautiful lawns. Bringing your own ride to this place is highly advisable. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay longer but would definitely like to come back.

My partner and I had a lovely stay in the Rochester Suite of the impressive Orton Hall. The well kept gardens and fountain that greet you upon arrival bring a real peaceful atmosphere to the property and it was nice sitting out there and enjoying a morning coffee. The suite itself is exceptionally homely and cleanly and provided for our every need. Thank you to the hosts, Melanie and Stephanie, who have put together a “how to” guide to assist with any intricacies of the suite. The surrounding area is full of routes for walking and i would recommend visiting the Fat Lamb Pub in Ravenstonedale, where we enjoyed a great lunch. Thanks for having us!

Our stay at Orton Hall was a highlight of our time walking the coast to coast. We had fabulous communication with Melanie who was super friendly and flexible. The apartment was all it said and more! Thanks for letting us stay.

Fabulous location to explore the lakes district. Well set up for children and lots for them to explore on the property
Andrea Mar 2025
What a fabulous place – full of character and atmosphere. Comfortably furnished and really well kitted out. It was just like in the photos. Loved all the original wood panelling and the fireplace. We were made to feel really welcome – great communication from the host throughout. Lots of super recommendations for local eateries, walks and tourist attractions. We were so lucky with the weather and saw the area in beautiful sunshine! We will definitely come back this summer to discover more! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your stunning property.

We loved our stay at Orton Hall! It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was even better then the description. Our hosts were very helpful, giving recommendations on places to visit and responding quickly when we were having a small issue with the hot water. It was a bonus having use of the common areas, and we enjoyed playing pool and chess there. The village is easy walking distance from the hall, with a small shop selling staples but also home made pies, a pub where we had a delicious dinner and a chocolate shop. The beds were comfortable and the place was spotless. Would highly recommend.
